Welcome to the home of Mr. Egan's West Linn High School Bands & Orchestra for 2009-2010

Just Added...

Congratulations to the Symphonic Band for their 2nd place finish at the Three Rivers League Band Contest on Tuesday, April 13. For the second time in as many performances, the Band qualified for the State Band Contest. Additionally, the Band had the highest score in sight-reading with a 54 out of 60.

All three groups: Symphonic Band, String Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra have qualified for State. We are one of only three schools in the State to accomplish this feat. Congratulations to all of the outstanding musicians for their hard work and wonderful performances.

Come down and support these outstanding musicians in this inaugural event. Admission is free.

13th Annual Jazz Night

Friday, April 23, 7-10 PM. West Linn HS Commons and Main Gym

Featuring the Jazz Bands from Athey Creek MS and Rosemont Ridge MS, HS Combos, the WLHS Jazz Ensemble and our Guest artists this year "The Stan Bock Ensemble." This annual event is the signature fund-raiser for the West Linn HS Instrumental Music program. This year, we are adding a twist to the event. In memory of our friend, mentor and colleague all proceeds from this event will be used to fund the "Jeff Cumpston Memorial Jazz Scholarship." This is a new scholarship fund that will be used to further the wonderful Jazz Education program here in the West Linn schools.

Additionally, the Art Department, under the direction of Lynn Pass, is creating fun and interesting art to sell at the event. All proceeds from the Art sales will go to the "Chombo Village Fund" that the Cumpston family established to support the people in Africa.

This is a wonderful opportunity to gather with a community of friends and music lovers to celebrate Jazz music and support the legacy of Jeff's influence here in West Linn.

Admission is $10/adults, $5/students and $20/family. Donations are gladly and gratefully accepted. There will also be light desserts available to enjoy in between performances while you are appreciating and supporting the art department's efforts.

Photo Collection of Mr. Cumpston

I posted many of the photos that Lori and I took of Mr. Cumpston in a slide show. Some are really nice photos that capture the way that he stepped out of the way and really listened when the kids played at concerts. Some are just of the back of his head (I have a lot of those). All remind me of different aspects of his unique personality.

Welcome

Welcome to the web site for the West Linn High School instrumental music program. West Linn High School is part of the West Linn Wilsonville school district in suburban Portland, Oregon.

The West Linn Band and Orchestra program is one of the finest in the State of Oregon. The tradition and reputation of excellence is well known throughout the Northwest, and it is one of West Linn High School's most celebrated points of pride. The program is busy with many performances each year, offering a wide range of experiences from classical to jazz to solo/ensemble, in venues like our brand new 600 seat auditorium and also festivals throughout the region. Each year the Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, Orchestra and soloists participate in league, district and state festivals, always receiving superior ratings, consistently placing first in the league and in the top 10 at state. The WLHS instrumental music program has a place for all students, whether serious musicians or students who just love to play their instrument in a more casual way. Between the Symphonic Band, Concert Band I and II, Jazz Band, String Orchestra, Pep band and 2-3 after school jazz combos, there is a place for everyone. It is a strong and well supported community in the school that supports each member and builds lasting friendships.

Director

The West Linn High School instrumental music department is directed by Kevin Egan.
